GIA gateway service · Copenhagen to the United States

Buy in Denmark, Shipped to the United States

Your Danish purchase, sent on to the United States. New goods with a receipt, received in Copenhagen, checked, repacked and tracked to your ground floor.

In short

GIA ships brand-new furniture, lighting and design pieces bought from Danish shops to private buyers and companies in the United States, including from shops that will not ship to the US themselves. Your goods need their original packaging and a receipt. GIA receives or collects them in Copenhagen, inspects and repacks them, and ships them on, tracked on giaservice.dk. US duties and the clearance are paid by the receiver, and delivery is to the ground floor.

Pricing

How the price is set.

Every shipment gets a fixed price in writing before anything moves. The price depends on:

Size and weightThe measurements and weight of the boxes, or of the pallet once packed.
DestinationThe country and the delivery address.
RepackingWhether the goods travel in their own boxes or need a pallet, extra protection or a crate.
CollectionWhether the shop delivers to GIA, or GIA collects from the shop.
Insurance valueBasic transport insurance is included. The value of the goods is part of the quote.

Customs clearance, import duties and taxes in the destination country are paid by the receiver. GIA prepares the export documents in Denmark, and the shop's receipt serves as the commercial invoice.

Importing your Danish purchase into the United States

Goods sent from Denmark to the US are cleared by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Since 29 August 2025 the duty-free de minimis treatment for low-value shipments has been suspended for all countries, so duties apply to shipments of any value.

Low-value shipments The $800 duty-free de minimis treatment is suspended for all countries since 29 August 2025. Shipments of any value are subject to the applicable duties.
Duty rates The rate depends on the product and its country of origin. US tariffs on goods from the EU have changed several times since 2025, so we check the current rate for your exact item when we quote.
Who pays The receiver pays US duties and the customs clearance. GIA prepares the export documents in Denmark, and the shop’s receipt serves as the commercial invoice.
Pallets Shipments to the US travel on heat treated, stamped Euro pallets.

Where the goods were made matters

A Danish brand is not always made in Denmark, and US duty depends on the country of origin. Check the country of manufacture on the box or the shop’s invoice before you buy. A clear product description and material (wood, metal, glass, textile) on the receipt helps the declaration.

Delivery to the ground floor in the United States

The shipment is handed over at street level at your address: at the front door, in a garage or a ground floor room you show us. Carrying the goods upstairs or into an apartment is arranged by the receiver. Tell us about doormen, loading docks or delivery hours in the request.

Questions from buyers in the United States

Is there still a duty-free limit for small shipments to the US?

No. CBP suspended the $800 duty-free de minimis treatment for all countries from 29 August 2025, so duties apply to shipments of any value.

How much duty will I pay on Danish furniture?

It depends on the product and where it was made, and US rates on EU goods have changed several times since 2025. We check the current rate for your item when we quote.

Who pays the duty?

The receiver pays US duties and the customs clearance.

Will the driver bring the furniture inside?

Delivery is to the ground floor at street level. Carrying the goods upstairs or inside is arranged by the receiver.

How long does shipping to the US take?

The expected timing depends on the goods, the packing and the address. We confirm it in writing together with your fixed price.
