GIA gateway service · Copenhagen to the United Kingdom

Danish Furniture Shipped to the United Kingdom

Your Danish purchase, sent on to the United Kingdom. New goods with a receipt, received in Copenhagen, checked, repacked and tracked to your ground floor.

In short

GIA ships brand-new furniture, lighting and design pieces bought from Danish shops to private buyers and companies in England, Scotland and Wales, including from shops that will not deliver to the UK themselves. Your goods need their original packaging and a receipt. GIA receives or collects them in Copenhagen, inspects and repacks them, and ships them on, and you follow the shipment on giaservice.dk. UK import VAT, any Customs Duty and the clearance are paid by the receiver, and delivery is to the ground floor.

Pricing

How the price is set.

Every shipment gets a fixed price in writing before anything moves. The price depends on:

Size and weightThe measurements and weight of the boxes, or of the pallet once packed.
DestinationThe country and the delivery address.
RepackingWhether the goods travel in their own boxes or need a pallet, extra protection or a crate.
CollectionWhether the shop delivers to GIA, or GIA collects from the shop.
Insurance valueBasic transport insurance is included. The value of the goods is part of the quote.

Customs clearance, import duties and taxes in the destination country are paid by the receiver. GIA prepares the export documents in Denmark, and the shop's receipt serves as the commercial invoice.

Importing your Danish purchase into Great Britain

Since the UK left the EU, goods sent from Denmark to England, Scotland or Wales go through UK customs. A value threshold of £135 decides how VAT and duty are collected.

Goods worth more than £135 The seller does not charge UK VAT. Import VAT is charged when the goods arrive, at the VAT rate that applies to them.
UK VAT rate The standard rate of 20 % applies to most goods. Some goods carry a reduced or zero rate.
Customs Duty For goods above £135, the rate depends on the type of goods and where they came from. GOV.UK points buyers to the UK Trade Tariff to check the rate for a specific product.
How you pay The delivery company takes the goods through UK customs. Before the goods are handed over, the receiver is sent a letter explaining how to pay any tax or duty owed.
Where we deliver England, Scotland and Wales. We do not deliver to Northern Ireland.
Pallets Wood packaging moving between Great Britain and the EU must be ISPM 15 treated and marked. Shipments to the UK travel on heat treated, stamped Euro pallets.

Where the goods were made matters

A Danish brand is not always made in Denmark. Customs Duty in the UK depends on where the goods came from, so the country of manufacture on the box, the label or the shop’s invoice is worth checking before you buy. The Danish receipt travels with the shipment as the commercial invoice, so a clear product description on it helps the declaration.

Typical Danish purchases for the UK

The gateway service suits new Danish design for the home: sofas and lounge chairs, dining tables and chairs, pendant and floor lamps, sideboards and shelving, and design pieces bought together as a set. Each item travels in the manufacturer’s packaging with the shop’s receipt.

Delivery to the ground floor in the UK

The shipment is handed over at street level at your address, at the front door, in a front garden, a garage or a ground floor room you show us. Carrying the boxes upstairs or into a flat is arranged by the receiver. If your address has steps up to the door, a basement entrance or restricted parking, tell us in the request so the delivery can be planned properly.

Questions from buyers in the United Kingdom
