Buy in Denmark, Shipped to Norway
Your Danish purchase, sent on to Norway. New goods with a receipt, received in Copenhagen, checked, repacked and tracked to your ground floor.
In short
GIA ships brand-new furniture, lighting and design for the home bought from Danish shops to private buyers and companies in Norway, including from shops that will not deliver there themselves. Your goods need their original packaging and a receipt. GIA receives or collects them in Copenhagen, inspects and repacks them, and ships them on, and you follow the shipment on giaservice.dk. Norwegian VAT and the declaration on arrival are handled and paid by the receiver, and delivery is to the ground floor.

Importing your Danish purchase into Norway
Norway is not part of the EU, so goods from Denmark are declared to Norwegian Customs when they arrive. For new furniture and home goods, the main cost on arrival is Norwegian VAT.
| Customs duty on furniture | Norwegian Customs charges no customs duty on furniture. Clothing and food are among the few goods that can carry duty. |
|---|---|
| Norwegian VAT | VAT of 25 % applies, even when the goods are free of customs duty. It is calculated on the customs value plus other taxes, which in most cases means the purchase price and the shipping costs. |
| Declaration on arrival | Goods are declared to Norwegian Customs on arrival, and the receiver pays the VAT then. The company that declares the goods usually charges its own fee for this work. That fee is not paid to Norwegian Customs. |
| National identity number | A customs declaration for a private buyer needs the receiver’s Norwegian national identity number. Have it ready when the declaration is made. |
| The VOEC scheme | Some foreign online shops are registered to charge Norwegian VAT at checkout for items under NOK 3,000. Items above that value are declared on arrival in the normal way. |
| Wooden pallets and crates | Wood packaging coming into Norway must be treated and marked under ISPM 15, and this applies to shipments from EU countries too. The importer is responsible for checking that the mark is there. |
Pallets for Norway need the ISPM 15 mark
This rule is easy to miss when buying from Denmark, because pallets moving between Denmark and other EU countries do not need the mark. Norway applies the requirement to imports from EU countries as well. Packaging made only of plywood, particle board or other processed wood, or of wood 6 mm thick or less, is outside the requirement. Shipments to Norway travel on heat treated, stamped Euro pallets.
Typical Danish purchases for Norway
The gateway service suits new Danish design for the home and the cabin: sofas and lounge chairs, dining sets, lighting, outdoor furniture in its boxes, and homeware bought as part of a larger order. Every item travels in the manufacturer’s packaging, with the shop’s receipt.
Delivery to the ground floor in Norway
The shipment is handed over at street level at your address, at the entrance, in a garage or a ground floor storage room you point us to. Carrying the boxes upstairs, into a flat or up to a cabin is arranged by the receiver. For addresses with a steep drive, a ferry or a long walk from the road, tell us in the request so the delivery can be planned properly.
What to have ready before the goods arrive
Keep the Danish receipt or invoice, your national identity number and your delivery details at hand. Expect two lines on arrival: Norwegian VAT, and the fee of the company that declares the goods, which is not GIA.
Questions from buyers in Norway
Is there customs duty on furniture shipped from Denmark to Norway?
No. Norwegian Customs charges no customs duty on furniture. Norwegian VAT of 25 % applies, and the receiver pays it when the goods are declared.
How is the Norwegian VAT on my furniture calculated?
VAT is calculated on the customs value plus other taxes. In most cases that is the purchase price plus the shipping costs.
Why is my national identity number needed?
A customs declaration for a private buyer in Norway needs the receiver’s national identity number. Without it the goods cannot be declared.
Do pallets from Denmark to Norway need the ISPM 15 mark?
Yes. Norway requires ISPM 15 treated and marked wood packaging, also for shipments from EU countries. The importer is responsible for checking the mark. Shipments to Norway travel on heat treated, stamped Euro pallets.
What is the fee on arrival besides VAT?
The company that declares the goods to Norwegian Customs usually charges a fee for that work. It is a fee to that company, not to Norwegian Customs, and it is paid by the receiver.
Does the VOEC scheme apply to my purchase?
The VOEC scheme lets registered online shops charge Norwegian VAT at checkout for items under NOK 3,000. Larger items, and purchases where Norwegian VAT was not charged at checkout, are declared on arrival and the receiver pays the VAT then.
Can GIA deliver up to my flat or cabin?
Delivery is to the ground floor at street level. Carrying the goods inside or up to a cabin is arranged by the receiver.
How long does shipping to Norway take?
The expected timing depends on the goods, the packing and the address. We confirm it in writing together with your fixed price.
