Why electronics cannot go in the bin in Denmark

Data security — what to do before we collect your devices
Before we collect computers, laptops, phones, tablets and storage devices, please take the following steps to protect your personal data.
Computers and laptops Back up any files you want to keep to an external drive or cloud storage. Then perform a factory reset or use disk wiping software to overwrite the storage. On Windows use the built-in Reset This PC function with the option to remove everything. On Mac use Disk Utility to erase the drive before reinstalling macOS.
Smartphones and tablets Back up your contacts, photos and apps. Sign out of all accounts — Apple ID, Google account and any linked services. Then perform a factory reset through the device settings. Remove your SIM card.
External hard drives and USB drives Use disk wiping software to overwrite the drive before disposal. Simply deleting files does not remove them — they remain recoverable until overwritten.
