When an international employee leaves their Danish apartment, there are typically four things that need to happen before the keys go back to the landlord:
- All furniture and household contents removed

- End of tenancy cleaning (slutrengøring) if required

The charity question — and why it matters
Many employees leaving Denmark ask whether their furniture can go to charity rather than landfill. The answer is yes — and we handle this as standard when items are in good condition. IKEA furniture purchased one to two years ago is genuinely useful to local Danish charities — Røde Kors, Kirkens Korshær and local social housing organisations all accept quality second-hand furniture. We deliver donatable items to the appropriate local charity and dispose of the rest through ARC eco-certified recycling. Nothing goes to landfill that does not need to.
