The short answer
Personal effects that arrive in Australia separately from you are cleared with the Australian Border Force form B534, the Unaccompanied Personal Effects Statement. It is a joint statement for customs and biosecurity. You complete it in English block letters, initial any corrections, and sign it with the same signature as in your passport. A copy of your passport photo page, and your visa if you are not an Australian citizen, goes with it, together with a packing list.
Checklist
- Form B534, completed in English block letters and signed as in your passport
- A copy of your passport photo page
- Your visa, or the visa grant letter, if you are not an Australian citizen
- A packing list of everything in the shipment (our shipping data sheet produces it)
Before you book
Australia checks personal effects for biosecurity as well as customs. Clean outdoor items, shoes, bikes and garden tools well before packing, and describe every item in plain words, for example “used hiking boots, cleaned”.
